Thanks for all your suggestions on video cameras! After much debate, I decided on the Kodak Zi6. It came down to the fact that I can use rechargeable batteries and bigger memory cards. Looking forward to showing you what I can do with it - yehaw, Texas, here we come!
What video camera do you use/want to buy and why?

I think I'd like one of the Sony Webbie HDs. I like the form factor and what I think is a quality advantage over the Vado, Zi6, and the Flips. HD, stills, 5x optical zoom for under $200 seems like a good deal. It's unfortunate that they use Memory Stick media instead of SD, but as a PSP owner, it's not like I don't have any of that lying around. Besides, I mean, come on: orange and purple! =]
ReplyDeleteI'm still baffled by the idea of buying a dedicated video camera, considering the number of compact cameras out there that have good video recording capability.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I have the Samsung NV8 which is great, and I even used it to make a one hour video documentary of the summer camp I worked for last summer (it helped us win the best centre award!). The only downside with it is that sound capture is temporary disabled when you zoom during recording - the technician explained that it was not a fault, but a feature to prevent the mechanical noise being recorded. FAIL.
Anyway, enjoy your camera! :)
Cool, I was going to get the ZI6 but when I bought my camera it wasn't out yet and I needed it at that point (for TC50). I have the Flip Mino and am considering upgrading to a Flip Mino HD if I don't upgrade my D100 to a d200 Or d300 in the near future. The ZI6 looks like one of the best deals out there, can't wait to see the footage you shoot with it.
ReplyDeleteDon't know much about cameras, but that camera looks sexy. Fits in the pocket, and it looks like a cell phone, so people wont act "for the camera" when you're recording them. Awesome pick, how much was it?
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using a Flip VideoUltra, which has decent video quality and surprisingly good audio quality. However, I am looking to upgrade to something HD. I'm curious about the audio quality of the ZI6 with respect to live acoustic music.
ReplyDeleteI chose the Zi6 in the big debate of which portable cam to buy. I think I made the better choice. The Flip Mino HD may have the less saturated video quality, but you got the Zi6 for the same reason I did Leah.
