The Didgeridoo

Holy Canole showed off his mad didgeridoo skills - he actually carved the dragon one himself among a few others. He is a man of many talents. Check out more about Chris.

Don't Worry 'bout a Thing

Catching up on the week's events...I spent my Memorial Day at the UCLA Jazz and Reggae Festival with my friend Freddy Harris. It was a beautiful day for strawberry lemonade (it was awful), strawberry banana smoothies in a giant $10 blue cup with "$5 refills all day" (it was delicious), and reggae music (it was good for dancin'). I missed Erykah Badu on Sunday night, but Monday was still very entertaining...especially because "Pita" was there.

Me drinking bad $5 strawberry lemonade. That was the last sip I took. It tasted like plastic.

A bit of the crowd - there were more people behind us. Great turn out. Perfect weather.

Freddy enjoying the smoothie and lost in deep thought.

This was one of maybe 3 songs I actually knew some of the words to...

The little umbrella was a nice touch. We put it in the dirt to shade the ants. I think they had a good day, too, with all the crumbs on the ground. More on the way...

Memorial Day Weekend

Break out your BBQ, buy your summer wardrobe, plant your flowers and open your pools! It's Memorial Day weekend! I remember when this time of year meant something different for me--it signified that the school year was almost wrapped and summer was just around the corner (remember I grew up in Ohio). But, now, this weekend feels like any other. In fact, this season feels like any other. It has felt like summer since the end of March. Trust me, though. I'm NOT complaining.

No disrespect to the reason why we celebrate Memorial Day, I'm just saying that the time of year used to have a special energy about it. Now I'm wide awake at 3 a.m. worried about all the work I need to get done over the weekend. Funny how things change when you're all grown up. Be careful with your grills, folks!

I'd advise not to BBQ near wooden fences, or anything else extremely flammable, like tablecloths, or your grandma's sundress. What's the dealio with your Memorial Day weekend? Any good grill fire stories?

Why am I holding my half marathon bib you may ask? Felix the Flyer is a screenplay about the 1904 Cuban Olympic Marathon runner, Felix Carvajal, and I still had it in my purse.

Call Time: 2 am

Sometimes you gotta work after hours. Sound Ryan and the rest of the film crew in Palm Springs have been working from 2am-10am for a nearly a week straight. I tagged along on a couple occasions, but could not adjust to that schedule. I'm finally sleeping like a normal human being! Anyway, here's one picture of me assisting Sound Ryan with his wind screens.

On a side note, this is a pretty sweet photo. You can see the sun coming up in the reflection on the car door/window. Well done.

Paparazzi

You gotta have eyes on the back of your head...

I Crossed the Finsh Line!

This is by far the hardest physical thing I've ever done...

13.1 miles in 02:58:08 - 68th place in my age group! Yehaw! I'll gladly do it again. Coach John keeps wearing the wrong bib when he runs so my glory of finishing my first half was overshadowed by the announcer congratulating him on qualifying for Boston...

Seriously, though, the first 8 miles were great. I didn't stop once. Then, at 8 miles I had to go to the bathroom and ate half of an orange. The last 4 miles were the most difficult. Out of the 13.1, I walked about 1.5 miles, but made sure to run in the last 1.2. The course was gorgeous. Congrats to the group who I ran with and thanks for the motivation to get involved and cross that finish line! And thanks to my family and friends who came out to cheer us on!
